| BACKGROUND: | Solar Cup is a seven-month program of the Metropolitan Water District and its member public water agencies in which teams of high school students build and race solar-powered boats. At kick-off event, students are given tool chests and kits of pre-cut marine-grade plywood to assemble the hulls they will subsequently equip and race in the May 14-16 Solar Cup event at Lake Skinner, Temecula. | |
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a
cooperative of 26 cities and water agencies serving 19 million people in
six counties. The district imports water from the Colorado
River and Northern California to supplement local supplies, and helps
its members to develop increased water conservation, recycling, storage
and other resource-management programs.
